In the wet weather of the winter of 1914-1915, horses proved their superiority over mechanized transport — as they would do again in France.

At the outbreak of WW1, most Canadian soldiers came over to England and the Salisbury Plain (in the south) area for their final training before being shipped out to Belgium and France.
