Field Artillery Training: Rifle exercises 2

Musketry Regulations Part 1 (1909, with amendments 1914) governed the use of the rifle, and the Field Artillery Training manual covered rifle exercises or drill. Artillerymen learned, for example, how to slope arms, order arms, present arms, and port arms for inspection.

The instructions make more sense to the uninitiated when paired with images, which the manual does not provide.

The images are from Rifle Exercises Simplified, published in Australia in 1915; excerpts are available here. Both British and Australian infantry are shown.

The instructions are from Field Artillery Training. HMSO. 1914.46.
