The prisoners of war were obviously one of the Amherst sights, in the flesh and in the picture postcards that were printed (in Canada) for the curious. Percy sent one to Janie:
Dearest, I d’ont [sic] know if you care for such Pictures or not were up to see these fellows tonight (a fine looking body of men they are too / letter tomorrow write quick dear x x
His punctuation is spotty, but his sentiments are clear.
To judge from the muscles, and the dumbbells on the ground, these particular prisoners worked hard to be a “fine looking body of men.”
