Witley, February 12, 1917

Monday   Still cold . last Tues 6th I was in Aldershot for the day.  I felt a bit sick, had a good day tho’

Now this is a bit of a mystery. The previous Tuesday Percy made no mention of this trip to Aldershot, about eleven miles by road from Witley. Nor does he now explain why he went, or why he omitted to record it at the time.

aldershot-queens-avenue-frithEstablished in the middle of the nineteenth century near the village of the same name, Aldershot Garrison was the first permanent military training camp for the British Army, and remains the “Home of the British Army.”

This photograph is attributed to Francis Frith, and is dated 1918  on the site called Historic Farnborough. Queen’s Avenue links Aldershot and Farnborough.
