Witley, May 22, 1917

Tuesday     I slept me [sic] last night under trees, went to bed about 12 A.M. after getting our lines  The batteries that we relieved were favoured with an electric storm on Sun night I hope we have good weather, we expect to go back tonight, it looks like rain at present 3 P.M.

He amplified the report in a note at the end of the diary:

20e Bivouacing after dinner May 1917 crop.jpgWe left camp at about 9 PM the weather looked like rain We were in position & had our lines by 12 midnight when we went to sleep The weather remained fair thru out the night & I slept well we arose this morning about 7 feeling good
