Wednesday   Inspection coming off on Sat Weather is fair

The Fifth Canadian Artillery Training Scheme called for a special inspection on the last day of section training, which will be February 17th. The Brigade Commander is to carry out the inspection, using a newly devised system of marking, the results of which are to be forwarded to the G.O.C. [General Officer Commanding]. (1)

The instructions from above are clear: “Special attention should be given to smartness of turnout of men, horses, and vehicles, and uniformity and neatness of packing stores and equipment.” (1) There will be a good deal of harness cleaning in Percy’s future.

There will be other inspections before too long. Today is the day that Brigadier General Garnet Hughes takes command of the Fifth Division(2). He is shown below with the staff of the Fifth Division at Witley. Judging by the leaves on the trees, the photograph was not taken in February.
